Insane, eh? Almost everyone reading this knows one cannot grow without change.
Babies cannot walk without changing how they balance and perceive the world. Kids cannot graduate school years without changing their learning methods and ideas on various subjects. We cannot change our life circumstances without taking action different than what we are doing today.
Yet I hear it every day… change is good, as long as I’m not asked to do it. I am fine, it’s you that needs to change to make us successful.
This is how leaders are identified. Leaders change. They move in a different direction often. They break down walls, and challenge others to. The old saying is true though: you can lead the horse to water (you can change direction and break a wall down for them), but you cannot make it drink (you cannot make someone else change).
It’s worth saying again: No one can make you change. You own your change.
You will not grow without change.
Nothing will be different in your life (personal or work-related), unless you make a conscious effort to change.
Change can be difficult, I know. It’s fear that makes change the most debilitating. Will the change work? Will I bet better, or worse, off? What if I fail?
What if you succeed? What if you learn something amazing and new?
What is the worst possible outcome? It’s probably not that bad. We have all hit walls. We have all failed at something… or many somethings 🙂 But those of us who keep changing experience success far more often.
Break away from your fear. Take those risks. Explore something new. Enjoy your success.
I’m not alone in this advice…
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
~George Bernard Shaw
For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.
~C. S. Lewis
They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.
